Hello! I'm Erin. I am a long-time digital nomad and netizen.
I am a Master's candidate at the University of Florida studying Web Design & Online Communication.
My academic interests include web and mobile software development, new media and theory, journalism, history of computers and technology.
If you follow sports, you may have encountered my writing.
I have worked as a sports journalist for nearly two decades, covering everything from high school and college games to professional and international events.
Since 1998, I have covered the Florida Panthers and NHL for numerous media outlets. Much of my reporting (and links to stories) can be found through my Twitter feed, @rinkside.
I computer programming.
The challenge of creating flexible, responsive, accessible and efficient code keeps me occupied for hours. My fluency is comparable to being able to think and analyze a foreign language's most complex texts.
I also enjoy writing command-line widgets in Ruby.
My bits are stored at GitHub.
I am a General class amateur radio operator, working under the call sign K4EMB.
My rig consists of a Yaesu FT-857d and a homebrew, 20-meter end-fed antenna. When possible, I power my equipment using a solar array.
Most stations I make contact with are domestic, but I have communicated with fellow hams in distant locations such as Finland (5,041 mi), Slovenia (5,160 mi) and Japan (7,448 mi).
